Snow Monkeys

After returning to Tokyo from Hokkaido we went off to Yudanaka a small town in the mountains of Nagano prfecture.
This was a 3 hour trip from Tokyo involvimg the famous bullet train as well as slower and more conventional local trains.
The reason for the trip to Yudanaka was to photograph the world famous Japanese Snow Monkeys. These Japanese macaques live in the mountains and take advantage of the hot springs to keep warm. It is possible to get very close to these animals and they show absolutely no fear of humans.
Although they are easy to get close to, they are not the easiest to photograph. They avoid eye contact and also tend to blink at the pre flash so lots of shots of them with their eyes closed or staring into the distance.
Having said that they are very photogenic with their almost human expressions.

Photo comment By Jacques R. Fabre: Magnifiques portraits, c'est troublant et touchant les attitudes du Snow Monkey bravo Peter
